The stock's story as a starting point of research

Updated 20 July 2026 6 min read

Margin’s stock story is built to be the first thing you read on a company: a structured narrative that gives context to every number you look at afterwards.

The concept behind the feature

A business becomes easier to understand as a story: why it exists, why customers keep paying it, how healthy its finances are, and what has actually happened to it lately. Once you hold that narrative, the ratios stop being abstract, because you know what drives a margin figure and what changed when growth dropped.

Starting from the story also guards against reading a cheap number as an opportunity, since a low valuation on a business you do not understand tells you nothing until you understand the business.

What Margin’s stock story covers

Each stock story is organised into a few consistent sections:

  • Why the business matters, the franchise and what makes it durable
  • Financial health, the state of the balance sheet and earnings quality
  • The stock’s recent story, what has actually been happening lately

Alongside the story, the research library carries related reports: valuation normalisation for what earnings look like through the cycle, a segment story that breaks the business down part by part, and an industry story on the sector’s structural forces.

How Margin does the work for you

Building a picture of a business normally means going through many different sources across the internet and stitching them together yourself. Margin does that gathering for you and uses AI to assemble it into a full, coherent story of the business, so you start from a finished narrative rather than a pile of tabs.

Each story is also available as audio, so you can take the research in while you commute or walk.

Using it well

Read the whole story before you form a view, and read it before you open the valuation tools. Read it for the questions it raises too: the sections you find yourself doubting or wanting more on are where your own deeper research should go.

If the stock you follow is not covered yet, request it, and Margin notifies you inside the app the moment its research is ready. Once the story convinces you, move to valuation and to tracking the expected return.
